This 9-day Mountains and Dunes tour in Morocco is an unforgettable journey that takes you from the snow-capped peaks of the High Atlas Mountains to the golden sands of the Sahara Desert. It combines trekking, cultural discovery, desert adventure, and historic kasbahs into one perfectly balanced itinerary.
Climb Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa, then travel beyond the mountains into the mysterious pre-Sahara—a timeless landscape of oases, dramatic gorges, ancient Berber fortresses, and remote desert outposts. This is Morocco at its most diverse, raw, and beautiful.
Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil – Toubkal Refuge
After an early transfer from Marrakech, arrive in the mountain village of Imlil, the starting point for treks in the High Atlas. Begin your ascent through the Mizane Valley, passing the village of Aremd and the sacred shrine of Sidi Chamarouch.
The trail climbs steadily along mule paths to the Toubkal Refuge (3,206m), where you settle in for the night surrounded by dramatic alpine scenery.
Approx. 4–5 hours walking.
Day 2: Mount Toubkal Summit – Imlil
An early start for the highlight of the mountain section. Ascend Jebel Toubkal via the southern cirque. The route is non-technical but demanding due to altitude and scree.
From the summit, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views—from the Marrakech Plain to the High Atlas and as far south as the Anti-Atlas and Sahara Desert. After time for photos, descend back to Imlil and spend the night in a local guesthouse.
Day 3: Tizi n’Tichka Pass – Valley of the Roses – Dades
Leaving the mountains behind, we drive toward southern Morocco, crossing the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass. The landscape changes dramatically as we enter desert territory, dotted with palm oases and ancient kasbahs.
After lunch, continue to the Valley of the Roses and onward to the Dades Valley—often called the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs. Overnight in Dades.
Day 4: Dades – Todra Gorge – Erg Chebbi
After breakfast, visit the dramatic Todra Gorge, with its towering limestone cliffs. Continue toward the Sahara Desert, arriving at the edge of the dunes of Erg Chebbi.

Day 5: Erg Chebbi – Camel Trek & Desert Camp
Enjoy a relaxed day exploring the dunes. In the afternoon, mount your camel and ride deep into the Sahara as the sun sets over the sand sea.
Spend the night in a traditional Berber desert camp, enjoying a warm dinner under the stars, followed by music and storytelling around the fire.
Day 6: Erg Chebbi – Draa Valley – Aït Ben Haddou
Wake early to watch the sunrise over the dunes before riding camels back to the lodge. After breakfast, drive through the lush Draa Valley, famous for its palm groves and ancient kasbahs.
Arrive at Aït Ben Haddou, one of the best-preserved ksars in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Overnight nearby.
Days 7 & 8: Aït Ben Haddou – Marrakech
Cross the High Atlas once more via the Tichka Pass and return to Marrakech. The afternoon is free to explore the medina, relax, or enjoy optional guided city tours.
Overnight in Marrakech.
Day 9: Marrakech – Airport Transfer
According to your flight schedule, your guide will transfer you to the airport and assist with departure formalities. Depart Morocco with unforgettable memories of mountains, deserts, and timeless culture.
