Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Skoura – Roses Valley – Dades Valley
Your adventure begins with an early departure from Marrakech, where your English-speaking guide will pick you up from your hotel or riad.
The journey heads south across the spectacular High Atlas Mountains, passing through the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, the highest mountain road pass in Morocco. Along the way you will enjoy breathtaking views of valleys, terraced fields, and remote Berber villages perched on the mountainsides.
The first major stop is the legendary Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This remarkable kasbah has served as a filming location for many famous movies such as Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and Game of Thrones. After exploring the village, enjoy lunch nearby.
The journey continues through the scenic Ounila Valley and traditional villages before reaching the Skoura Oasis, known for its palm groves and historic kasbahs.
Later in the afternoon, travel through Kelaat M’Gouna, the heart of the Valley of Roses, famous for its annual rose festival and fragrant rose products. Continue through a landscape dotted with ancient kasbahs before arriving in the Dades Valley, where you will spend the night in a comfortable guesthouse.
Dinner and overnight stay in Dades Valley.
Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga Desert – Camel Trek
After breakfast, the tour continues toward the town of Tinghir, once a strategic French military outpost surrounded by palm groves and mountains.
From here you will visit the spectacular Todra Gorge, one of Morocco’s most dramatic natural sites. The towering canyon walls rise up to 600 meters, creating a narrow passage carved by the river over thousands of years. Enjoy a short walk through the gorge and admire the impressive rock formations.
At midday, travel through the palm groves of Tinjdad and Touroug, where you will stop for lunch. The journey then continues to Erfoud, a town famous for its fossil workshops, where artisans craft decorative objects from ancient marble fossils.
Finally arrive in Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. Leave unnecessary luggage at the hotel before starting your camel trek across the Erg Chebbi dunes.
The camel ride lasts about 1.5 hours, leading you deep into the desert where towering sand dunes rise dramatically above the landscape. Upon arrival at the Berber desert camp, settle into comfortable nomadic tents equipped with bedding and basic facilities.
Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, followed by Berber music around the campfire beneath a sky filled with countless stars.
Overnight stay in the desert camp.
Day 3: Merzouga – Rissani – N’Kob – Draa Valley – Agdez – Ouarzazate
Wake early to witness one of the most magical moments of the desert — sunrise over the Sahara dunes. After enjoying traditional mint tea, ride your camels back to the hotel where you can shower and enjoy breakfast.
The journey then continues toward Rissani, an ancient trading town that once served as a major stop on trans-Saharan caravan routes.
Travel through the desert landscapes toward Alnif and N’Kob, a village known as the historic homeland of the Ait Atta Berber tribe. Stop for lunch in a traditional kasbah restaurant offering panoramic views of the surrounding desert scenery.
In the afternoon, continue through the breathtaking Draa Valley, one of the largest palm valleys in Morocco, famous for its thousands of date palms and ancient fortified villages.
Arrive in Agdez, a historic caravan town once used by traders traveling between Marrakech and Timbuktu.
The road then climbs over the Tizi n’Tinfifite Pass before reaching Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Africa” because of its famous film studios and cinematic history.
Dinner and overnight stay in Ouarzazate
Day 4: Ouarzazate – Atlas Mountains – Marrakech
After breakfast, begin the final day of your journey with a visit to the Cinema Museum of Ouarzazate, where you can discover the fascinating history of filmmaking in Morocco.
The return trip to Marrakech follows the beautiful Ounila Valley, known for its dramatic mountain scenery and traditional mud-brick villages.
Stop for lunch along the way while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the Atlas Mountains.
In the afternoon, cross the High Atlas Mountains once again via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, arriving back in Marrakech by late afternoon or early evening.
Your guide will accompany you to your riad or hotel, marking the end of this unforgettable 4-day Atlas Mountains and Sahara Desert adventure.
