Journey deep into southern Morocco on this unforgettable 6-day Sahara Desert adventure from Marrakech. Cross the High Atlas Mountains, explore legendary kasbahs, follow ancient caravan routes, and experience the magic of the Erg Chebbi dunes, home to Morocco’s tallest sand dunes rising over 250 meters.
This immersive trip blends mountains, oases, desert culture, nomadic life, and camel trekking, offering a complete Sahara experience far beyond a standard desert tour.
Itinerary
Day 1 – Marrakech – High Atlas – Telouet – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate
Depart Marrakech at around 8:30 AM and cross the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m), stopping for panoramic views and photos. Continue via a scenic road to Telouet to visit its historic kasbah and enjoy lunch in a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, visit the UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou, famous for films such as Gladiator and Sahara. Continue to Ouarzazate for dinner and overnight at a hotel.
Day 2 – Ouarzazate – Rose Valley – Todra Gorges – Merzouga
After breakfast, travel through the palm groves of Skoura and the Valley of Roses, dotted with ancient kasbahs. Stop at the impressive Todra Gorges, where sheer rock walls rise dramatically above the riverbed.
Continue toward the desert, arriving in Merzouga. Climb the dunes to watch a spectacular sunset, followed by dinner, Berber music, and an overnight stay in a desert lodge near the dunes.
Day 3 – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi – Nomads – Desert Camp
Explore the vast Erg Chebbi, including the Great Dune of Morocco, following parts of the historic Paris-Dakar Rally route with views toward the Algerian border mountains.
Visit the Tissardmin Oasis and meet desert nomads to learn about their traditional lifestyle. Stop in Khamlia Village to enjoy spiritual Gnawa music performed by descendants of Sub-Saharan communities.
In the afternoon, ride camels across the dunes to your desert camp. Watch the sunset, enjoy dinner under the stars, and sleep in a traditional Berber haima deep in the Sahara.
Day 4 – Merzouga – Rissani – Draa Valley – Zagora
Wake early to watch sunrise from the dunes. After breakfast, depart for Rissani, cradle of the Alaouite dynasty and home to one of southern Morocco’s largest markets.
Continue through arid landscapes to the lush Draa Valley, the longest river valley in Morocco. Arrive in Zagora, once a key stop on the caravan route to Timbuktu. Dinner and overnight at a hotel.
Day 5 – Zagora – Ouarzazate – High Atlas – Marrakech
After breakfast, see the famous “52 Days to Timbuktu” sign before traveling back through the Anti-Atlas to Ouarzazate. Visit Kasbah Taourirt, Tifoultoute, and film studios before crossing the High Atlas Mountains again.
Stop at an argan oil cooperative to learn about traditional production methods. Arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon. Enjoy a free evening exploring Jamaa El Fna and overnight in a riad.
Day 6 – Marrakech – Airport
Transfer to the airport or your accommodation according to your departure schedule.
