Starting just a couple of hours from Marrakech, this trek combines stunning landscapes, Berber culture, and the thrill of summiting Toubkal, making it ideal for active travelers, couples, or small groups seeking a short but rewarding adventure.
Itinerary
Day 1 – Marrakech / Imlil – Toubkal Refuge
After pickup in Marrakech, drive a few hours to the picturesque village of Imlil, the main gateway to Toubkal. Begin trekking along the Mizane Valley, passing the village of Aremd and the shrine of Sidi Chamarouch, a local pilgrimage site.
Cross flood plains and follow mule tracks up to the high cliffs, observing traditional terraces and Berber farms. Continue ascending gradually to the Toubkal Refuge (3,206m), where you’ll spend the night surrounded by snow-capped peaks.
Walking time: Approx. 4–5 hours
Optional Add-ons: Combine this trek with a visit to Berber villages, a Sahara Desert trip, a Moroccan cooking class, or a camel ride in Asni. Guests can also extend their stay in Imlil Guesthouse (€35/night for 2 pax, dinner included).
Day 2 – Toubkal Summit – Return to Imlil
Early morning, set off for the summit of Jebel Toubkal (4,167m). The ascent follows the south cirque, crossing streams above the refuge. Although challenging due to scree and altitude, the climb is non-technical and extremely rewarding.
At the summit, take in unobstructed 360° views: Marrakesh Plain to the north, snowy High Atlas ridges, the Anti-Atlas, and even the Sahara Desert to the south. After photos and a short rest, descend via the same route back to Imlil, completing your trek.
