Berber Tribes 4 Day Trek
After discovering the vibrant city of Marrakech, escape the urban atmosphere and journey into the heart of the Atlas Mountains. Just an hour and a half from the city, this trek offers an authentic experience of Amazigh (Berber) rural life, breathtaking mountain landscapes, and traditional villages where time seems to stand still.
Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech – Tahliouin
After breakfast at your riad or hotel in Marrakech, your guide will pick you up and drive towards Agersioual in the Atlas Mountains. Here you meet your mule team and begin walking through the beautiful Matat Valley. Following a narrow mountain trail, you reach the Tizi-n-Oudit pass (2,219 m), where you stop for lunch.
In the afternoon, descend into the Azzaden Valley and continue to the village of Tahliouin (1,650 m).
Overnight: Local guesthouse
Walking time: Approx. 4–5 hours
Note: This itinerary is a guideline and may be adjusted depending on weather conditions and local circumstances.
Day 2: Tahliouin – Tekkent Valley
After breakfast, walk down to the Azzaden River and begin ascending along a scenic ridge with sweeping views over the valley. Lunch is served in Asswikn, under the shade of ancient walnut trees.
After lunch, continue your hike toward the Tekkent Valley, passing traditional villages and terraced fields.
Overnight: Gîte in Tekkent
Walking time: Approx. 6 hours
Day 3: Tekkent – Tizi Oussem
Climb up to Azib Tekkent, the summer village used by local shepherds, then continue to the Tizi-n-Tegdalt pass (2,700 m). From here, enjoy spectacular views over the Azzaden Valley and Mount Agelzim.
Descend to the river for lunch, then follow the river trail to reach the village of Tizi Oussem.
Overnight: Local gîte
Walking time: Approx. 6–7 hours.
Day 4: Tizi Oussem – Imlil – Marrakech
Walk up the valley to visit the beautiful Ighouliden waterfalls. Afterward, retrace your steps and take the trail toward the Tizi-n-Mezzik pass (2,489 m), offering a final panoramic view over the Imlil region.
After lunch at the pass, descend to Imlil, where your vehicle awaits for the transfer back to Marrakech.
