2-Day Azzaden Valley Trek from Marrakech
The Azzaden Valley Trek is one of the most beautiful short trekking adventures in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco. Perfect for travelers with limited time, this 2-day trek from Marrakech offers a unique opportunity to explore traditional Berber villages, scenic mountain passes, and lush valleys far from the busy tourist routes.
Starting from the famous trekking village of Imlil, the trail climbs over the Tizi Mzik Pass, offering spectacular views of the surrounding Atlas peaks including Mount Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa.
Along the way, you will visit the impressive Tamsoult Waterfalls, the highest waterfalls in the Atlas Mountains, before descending into the peaceful Azzaden Valley, known for its traditional Berber villages, terraced farmland, and juniper forests.
This trek combines mountain landscapes, authentic Berber culture, and stunning natural scenery, making it one of the best short trekking experiences near Marrakech.

Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil – Tizi Mzik Pass – Tamsoult Waterfalls – Tizi Oussem
Your adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. From here, you will drive south toward the High Atlas Mountains, passing through the small towns of Tahnnaout, Oued Ghighaya, and Asni, where weekly Berber markets take place.
The road continues through beautiful mountain scenery until you reach Imlil (1,740 m), the main trekking base for Mount Toubkal and the surrounding valleys.
After meeting your local mountain guide and mule team, the trek begins with a steady climb toward the Tizi Mzik Pass (2,684 m). From the top of the pass you will enjoy breathtaking panoramic views across the Imlil Valley, the surrounding Atlas Mountains, and the impressive peak of Mount Toubkal.
After a short rest, the trail continues toward the beautiful Tamsoult Waterfalls, the highest waterfalls in the Atlas Mountains. The waterfalls cascade down dramatic rock cliffs and offer a perfect place to relax and enjoy lunch surrounded by nature.
In the afternoon, the trek descends through juniper forests into the peaceful Azzaden Valley, passing traditional Berber homes and terraced farmland.
The day ends in the charming mountain village of Tizi Oussem (1,850 m), where you will stay overnight in a traditional Berber guesthouse.

Day 2: Tizi Oussem – Id Issa Village – Tizi Oudid Pass – Ouirgane – Marrakech
After breakfast in the guesthouse, the second day begins with a scenic walk through the heart of the Azzaden Valley, one of the most fertile valleys in the Atlas Mountains.
The trail passes through the small Berber village of Id Issa, where you can observe traditional mountain life and admire the impressive stone houses built into the mountainsides.
From here the path climbs gradually toward the Tizi Oudid Pass (2,000 m), offering more stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
After crossing the pass, the trail descends through beautiful landscapes of olive groves, terraced fields, and Berber villages, eventually reaching the peaceful village of Mattat.
Lunch will be served along the way before continuing the final part of the trek toward Aguersioual or Ouirgane, where your driver will be waiting.
From here you will transfer back to Marrakech, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening.
