Itinerary
Day 1 – Marrakech – Imi Oughlad – Tizi n’Tachte – Tiziane
Depart Marrakech early in the morning and drive through the scenic Moulay Brahim Gorge, heading toward the higher foothills of the western High Atlas Mountains. Arrive at Imi Oughlad, your trailhead for the trek, and meet the mule team who will carry your luggage and supplies.
Begin a gentle acclimatization hike, passing through cornfields, pine forests, and juniper groves toward Tizi n’Tachte, where you’ll enjoy panoramic views over Imlil and surrounding peaks. After a field picnic at Imi n’Ifri, continue downhill along the dirt tracks through the Assif n’Ait Oussaden river valley to the red clay terraced village of Tiziane, where you’ll settle in for the night.
Approx. 5–6 hours walking
Day 2 – Tiziane – Tizi n’Taghrhourte – D’Knt
After breakfast, continue along the Assif n’Ait Oussaden Valley, passing walnut groves and terraced fields. Ascend gradually to Tizi n’Taghrhourte (1,995m), a high pass offering breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys. Pause for a field picnic in the serene mountain landscape, then continue along the valley edge through lightly forested areas.
By afternoon, arrive at the Berber village of D’Knt (1870m), also known as Agouns n’Assoul, where you’ll enjoy dinner and stay overnight in a bivouac or traditional gîte, experiencing authentic Berber village life.
Approx. 5–6 hours walking
Day 3 – D’Knt – Tizi n’Tagdalte – Tizi Oussem / Tamsoult
Start the day trekking through walnut groves, cornfields, and barley fields, greeting shepherds and their flocks along the way. Ascend to Tizi n’Tagdalte, then descend through juniper forests to a secluded spring, where you’ll stop for a picnic.
Continue winding downhill along upper slopes for approximately three hours to reach the small river at the beginning of the Assif n’Ait Oussaden Valley, then proceed to Tizi Oussem (1850m) and the summer village of Tamsoult, where you’ll camp or stay in a gîte for the night. Enjoy the tranquility and spectacular mountain sunset.
Approx. 6 hours walking
Day 4 – Tizi Oussem – Ighouliden Waterfalls – Tizi n Mzik – Imlil / Marrakech
The final day begins with a climb out of the Azzadene Valley, heading toward the summer village of Azib n Tamsoult. Visit the Ighouliden Waterfalls, a hidden gem tucked into the valley — perfect for photos and a refreshing break. Then, trek over Tizi n Mzik (2,489m) for a panoramic farewell to the High Atlas.
