4-Day Atlas Mountains Trek & Berber Village Adventure
This 4-day adventure combines trekking through traditional Berber villages with an exciting mountain biking experience in the High Atlas Mountains. Starting from Marrakech and the trailhead in Imlil, you will trek along mountain paths, explore terraced fields, visit Berber homes, and witness daily life in remote villages.
The adventure continues with a mountain biking excursion through the scenic Imnan Valley, where you will descend past lush terraces, historic villages, and panoramic views of Jbel Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa. This tour offers a perfect blend of culture, active adventure, and stunning mountain landscapes, ideal for travelers who want an immersive High Atlas experience.
Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil – Tinoughrine
After pickup from Marrakech, transfer to Imlil (1,740 m), the gateway to the High Atlas Mountains. Begin your trek heading toward Tinerhourhine, passing through Tamatert. Stop for lunch at Tizi n’Tamatert Pass (2,279 m) with stunning mountain views. Continue along the trail to Ouanesekra-Tamguist before arriving at Tinerhourhine (1,600 m) for your overnight stay in a local gite. Approx. 4 hours walking.
Day 2: Tinoughrine – Aït Aïssa
Depart from Tinerhourhine along the Imnane Valley, passing the Berber village of Ikkiss (1,700 m). Trek up to Tizi n’Aguersioual Pass (2,000 m), then continue to Matate (2,000 m) for lunch. Reach Aït Aïssa (1,800 m) in the late afternoon and stay overnight in a local gite. Approx. 6–7 hours walking.
Day 3: Aït Aïssa – Tizi Oussem – Imlil
From Aït Aïssa, trek toward Tizi Oussem (1,900 m), passing Tizi Mzik (2,400 m) and the village of Mzik. Descend back to Imlil, enjoying views of terraced orchards, mountain streams, and traditional Berber villages along the way. Overnight stay in a guesthouse. Approx. 4 hours walking.
Day 4: Imnan Valley – Mountain Bike Day Trip
Start the day with a drive to Imlil, the “Little Chamonix of Morocco,” where your mountain biking adventure begins. Ride along asphalt roads and winding trails toward Tamatert Village and the Tizi n’Tamatert Pass, enjoying spectacular panoramic views of Jbel Toubkal.
From the pass, choose to descend via the road track or, for more adventurous riders, the off-road trail. Pedal through the lush Imnan Valley, observing traditional Berber life and terraced fields. Break for a traditional Berber lunch in Arg, then continue descending into Asni Village, where you can explore or relax. Your transport will take you back to Marrakech in the late afternoon.
