This 6-day trekking adventure in the High Atlas Mountains offers a unique opportunity to explore the traditional lifestyle of the Berber communities of Morocco while hiking through some of the most beautiful and authentic landscapes near Marrakech.

Located on the northern side of the High Atlas Mountains, the Amizmiz region is known for its picturesque valleys, fertile terraces, and traditional villages surrounded by walnut, olive, and almond trees.

During this trek, you will walk along ancient mountain paths connecting remote villages where local families maintain centuries-old traditions. Along the way, you will enjoy spectacular mountain scenery, meet friendly villagers, and experience the warm hospitality of Berber culture.

The Amizmiz trek is ideal for travelers who want an authentic Moroccan trekking experience, combining nature, culture, and adventure while staying in traditional Berber homes.

Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech – Amizmiz – Ait Irghite Village

Your trekking adventure begins with a scenic drive from Marrakech toward the charming town of Amizmiz, located at the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains.

After meeting your trekking team and mule handlers, the journey begins with a gentle hike through beautiful pine forests, traditional farmlands, and small Berber villages.

The trail follows sections of the Amizmiz River, offering wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and cultivated terraces.

By late afternoon you will arrive at Ait Irghite village, where you will stay with a local Berber family in a traditional mountain house. Here you can experience authentic Moroccan hospitality and relax with a traditional Berber hammam (steam bath).

Trekking time: approximately 5–6 hours

Overnight stay in a traditional Berber home.

Day 2: Ait Irghite – Tigeramin Pass – Tizi Imlil

After breakfast, the trek continues through scenic mountain trails climbing gradually toward the Tigeramin Pass (2100 m).

From the pass you will enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the High Atlas Mountains, surrounding valleys, and distant Berber villages scattered across the hillsides.

The trail then descends through the village of Ait Hsain, where you will stop for lunch near the river under the shade of walnut and almond trees.

During the afternoon trek, you will pass through fertile agricultural terraces where local villagers cultivate wheat, maize, olives, and almonds.

The day ends in the village of Tizi Imlil, where you will stay with another Berber family and enjoy a traditional homemade dinner.

Overnight in a traditional Berber house with optional hammam.

Day 3: Tizi Imlil – Smghort Valley – Tizi Ousol

After breakfast, say goodbye to your hosts and continue trekking toward the beautiful Smghort Valley, one of the hidden gems of the High Atlas region.

The trail climbs steadily toward the mountain pass of Tizi n’Smghort (2100 m), offering stunning views across the rugged Atlas landscapes.

From the summit, you will descend into the lush Infag Valley, where lunch will be served in a peaceful natural setting surrounded by mountain scenery.

After lunch the trek continues toward Tizi Ousol village, passing through several traditional Berber settlements along ancient paths used by villagers for generations.

Day 4: Tizi Ousol – Tizi n’Oodaden – Anamrou Village

Today’s trek leads toward the mountain pass of Tizi n’Oodaden (2000 m), one of the most scenic viewpoints of the journey.

From the pass, you can admire sweeping views of the surrounding mountains, valleys, and remote Berber villages.

The trail then descends toward the traditional village of Tnirte, where you will stop for lunch and may meet local shepherds tending their flocks.

Continuing through scenic countryside and agricultural terraces, you will arrive in Anamrou village, where you will spend the night with a welcoming Berber family.

As in previous nights, you will have the chance to enjoy a traditional Berber hammam and a homemade Moroccan dinner.

Day 5: Anamrou – Angal Valley – Infag Village

After breakfast, the trek continues through the beautiful Angal Valley, an area known for its fertile farmland and traditional Berber villages.

During the walk you will see local farmers working their land and cultivating crops such as barley, wheat, walnuts, and almonds.

Lunch will be served under the shade of large walnut trees, providing a peaceful break in the middle of nature.

In the afternoon you will continue walking through small mountain villages where you may have the chance to interact with local families and learn more about their daily life.

The day ends in Infag village, where you will spend your final night with a Berber family and celebrate the end of your trekking journey.

Day 6: Infag – Amizmiz – Marrakech

After breakfast, your trek comes to an end with a short transfer from Infag village to the town of Amizmiz.

From here you will continue by vehicle back to Marrakech, enjoying the scenic landscapes of the Atlas Mountains along the way.

Arrival in Marrakech marks the end of your 6-day High Atlas trekking adventure, filled with unforgettable experiences, cultural encounters, and breathtaking mountain scenery.
