Designed for those who want to explore beyond the classic routes, this itinerary takes you deep into traditional villages, fertile valleys, high mountain passes, and hidden waterfalls of the High Atlas.

Starting from Marrakech, the journey leads you into the heart of the Atlas Mountains, where life moves at a slower pace and traditions are still deeply rooted. Walking from village to village, sharing meals with local families, and trekking through ever-changing landscapes, this trip offers a genuine connection with Morocco’s mountain communities.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Marrakech – Camel Ride – Imlil Valley

Your adventure begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel in Marrakech around 9:00 am. Enjoy a scenic drive across the El Haouz Plain towards the High Atlas Mountains, with breathtaking views unfolding along the way.

Near Moulay Brahim, you will meet your local team and begin a camel ride through juniper forests, offering panoramic views over Asni and its surrounding Berber villages. After 1–2 hours on camelback, you reunite with your driver and continue to Imlil (1740m), the main trekking hub of the region.

In Imlil, you start your walk through traditional Berber villages, followed by lunch and mint tea with a local family. Overnight in a comfortable guesthouse, surrounded by mountain scenery..

Note: This itinerary is flexible and may be adjusted due to weather conditions or local considerations.

Day 2 – Imlil – Imi Oughlad – Tizi N’Tachte – Tiziane

After breakfast, a short drive takes you south through the Ait Mizane gorges to Imi Oughlad, where you meet your muleteer team. From here, the trek begins with a gradual acclimatization hike through pine and juniper forests, cornfields, and traditional farmland.

Climb to Tizi N’Tachte, where you can look back over the Imlil Valley before continuing to Imi N’Ifri for a picnic lunch. The afternoon walk descends gently along dirt tracks into the Assif N’Ait Oussaden Valley, arriving at the red-clay village of Tiziane. Dinner and overnight in a local gîte.

Day 3 – Tiziane – Tizi N’Taghrhourte – D’Knt

Today’s walk follows the Assif N’Ait Oussaden Valley, passing walnut groves and small farming communities. After a steady ascent, you reach Tizi N’Taghrhourte (1995m) and continue along a rare flat section to Assaka Spring, a peaceful spot for lunch.

The afternoon trek descends through forest edges to the remote Berber village of D’Knt (Agouns N’Assoul). Enjoy a traditional dinner and overnight stay in a gîte or bivouac, surrounded by silence and mountain views.

Day 4 – D’Knt – Tizi N’Tagdalte – Tizi Oussem

A beautiful mountain day awaits as you climb through fields of barley and corn, greeting shepherds along the trail. Crossing Tizi N’Tagdalte, you are rewarded with expansive views over the surrounding valleys and peaks.

After a picnic lunch near a mountain spring, descend via winding paths into the Assif N’Ait Oussaden Valley. Arrive in Tizi Oussem (1850m) and continue to the summer village of Tamsoult for dinner and overnight in a gîte or camp.

Day 5 – Tizi Oussem – Ighouliden Waterfalls – Tizi N’Mzik – Imlil / Marrakech

The final day features one of the highlights of the Atlas Mountains. Climb out of the Azzaden Valley towards Azib N’Tamsoult and visit the impressive Ighouliden Waterfalls.

Continue the ascent to Tizi N’Mzik Pass (2489m), where you enjoy lunch with sweeping views over the Imlil region. Descend back to Imlil, where the trek ends. Depending on your preference, you can spend the night in Imlil or transfer directly back to Marrakech.
