Active Treks Morocco - Aguelzim pass and Toubkal Ascent 01

DETAILS

Day 1 MARRAKECH - AZIB TAMSSOULT

Transfer from Marrakech to the Atlas Mountains: 1:30 minute drive to Imlil (1740m), famous starting point for mountaineering trips. Discover the area and hike up to Tizi-n-Mezzik mountain pass (2489m). Enjoy the magic view of Imlil area and Azzaden valley. Field lunch prepared by our cook in the middle of a jeneper forest. After lunch, walk down the valley of Azzaden to the summer village of Tamssoult (2250m). Overnight in the refuge or camp. Approx 5h walking.

Walk along the river up to waterfall of Igholidn. Continue hiking up to Tizi-n-ougelzim mountain pass (3600m). This is a good acclimatization for the summit the day after. Enjoy the spectaculare view of the Haouz plaine and Toubkal summit, the Highest North Africa’s peak during your picnic on the pass. Then walk down to the base camp of Toubkal (3207m). Camp or sleep in the refuge. Approx 7h walking.
Early breakfast followed by a 3 hours hiking up to your goal, the highest North African peak: Jebel Toubkal (4167m). Depending on the season, the way leads over some snowfields. After about 2 hours, you reach the ridge from where you get a first stunning view around you. You then follow the ridge for another few hundred meters of elevation and soon reach the long awaited summit. If the air is clear, you get a good view to surrounding summits such as Jebel Siroua (3300m) or Jebel Ouankrim (4083m). After a short break to catch your breath and take plenty of summit fotos, we head back down to the refuge. Back at the refuge, extensive and delicious lunch prepared by our cook is waiting for you. After you are strengthened again, we walk back to Imlil, passing through the holymoon of Chamharouch. Drive back to Marrakech. 8 to 9h walking. (1000 m up, 2400m down)
