It takes around 1h30 drive to Imlil valley which is the closer starting point of trekking tours towards this highest peak in Morocco. You would need at least 2 days so as to climb up Mt Toubkal, but this is possible if you are fit enough; otherwise it would be better to opt for the 3 days trek which will give enough time to acclimitize and relax after the climb!
In addition to trekking in toubkal, you can do other outdoor activities such as mountain biking which can be done from 1 day trip up to 6 days mountain biking around the high atlas mountains and berber villages & valleys. Moreover, you can do ski touring in the high atlas mountains in winter time from end of December till March; we have off piste skiing tours from 2 days up to 6 days skiing in toubkal area.
We have other outdoor activities such as horse riding & camel riding in high atlas mountains; we have days trips or long trips too!
Another thing, Toubkal area is not the only region where we run our tours, but there are other nice places too such as Mt Mgoun, Mt Siroua, Mt Saghro, Sahara, and Imperial cities.

Atlas Mountains Trekking:

Trekking through Atlas Mountains in Morocco. The High Atlas is one of three components of the chain of the Moroccan’s Atlas. This marks a massive climatic border between the lands of the ocean and those of Moroccan desert , because beyond the High Atlas, the arid expanses of the Sahara begins. Highlight and emblematic site in the region, Jebel Toubkal peaks at over 4000 meters altitude, a visible peak from Marrakech! The High Atlas divides itself into various more or less ancient geological areas and landscapes of this region are as rich and varied between spectacular formation born of chaos reliefs to plateaus and valleys cultivated by the Berber population, who inhabited these places for thousands of years.
sahara trekking in moroccoThe Moroccan Sahara is mainly made up of a big rocky plain, which runs from the feet of the Atlantis on the North/East almost to the Atlantic coast, south of Agadir. In Morocco, the desert moves smoothly, the Draa Valley or Wadi Ziz strung a string of villages and lush palm groves, before losing in the dunes of the erg (Chebbi or labidia), which lie at the foot highland last relief before Algeria.Even within the desert you can enjoy different landscapes: the dry, thorny plain where jackals and camels live, the Sahara desert: reign of scorpions and snakes or the northern oasis full of bustle and life. The choice is yours. Trekking in Morocco’s sahara is a lifetime experience!
A trip to the Sahara desert is definitely an experience everyone should do at least once in his life. The beauty of the desert, its contrasts, its colors, its silence, many memories you will never forget. You walk on foot in the desert with camels carrying your luggage and supplies , and a professional guide as well as a cook who prepares delicious food for your everyday. It is a marvellous experience, just give it a try! come & join us in trekking in morocco’s desert in winter time.

Testimonials & Reviews :

Our leader, Mohamed Maachou, was excellent. Everything he organised went to plan. He was very friendly and knowledgeable and made sure that everyone felt part of the group. He set a steady pace and there were plenty of rests. He was always looking out for trekkers who found some of the rock steps or descents awkward and always kept the group fairly close together. His assistant, the cook and the muleteers were also excellent. A great team.

Our Tour leader was Mohamed Maachou. As a first time solo female traveler I was very nervous but he put me at my ease straight away. His English was superb and knowledge of the local flora and fauna was outstanding, I really learned a lot, and his great sense of humour meant a smile was never far from our lips. His first precedence was always our safety, he came to my rescue on more than one occasion once when I had a little encounter with a mule on a mountain path and the other on a rather scary mountain ledge. A Great Guy. I cannot go without mentioning Abbi I think his name was – He brought up the rear on many occasions watching out for me and singing in Berber 😉 and when I stumbled on rocks and scree or needed to stop to catch my breath he would say “no rush, no rush”

Mohamed Maachou has a real passion for what he does. He is knowledgeable, patient, very safety conscious and has impressive leadership skills. I never felt anxious as I knew he was watching out for each of us with our differing fitness levels and needs. I am not sure if and when he slept as he was always there making decisions and plans for us.

A wonderful experiance walking through villages, valleys and mountains. What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?Topping Toubkal was a brilliant. What did you think of your group leader?Mohamed was excellent and very knowledgeable about the torain and florra, and he quickly got the ideal pase for a ‘mixed speed’ group. He proved himself when one of the group had a fall arranging everything to get her to hospital asap.Do you have any advice for potential travellers? This is a hard trip with many steep climbs and decents on, to be honest, not very good paths! Two hiking stick essential.

Mohamed was a great guide with a great sense of humour. Excellent knowledge of the culture, people, plants and wildlife. Experienced with the mountains and trekked at a pace for all (Too many stops for me) Made time for everyone in the group and kept us together at all times. First class

Mohamed Maachou was a great leader and really helped us make the most of our Moroccan experience. He is a family man and made sure that the children were safe and happy and didn’t miss a thing. My son was thrilled at his knowledge of the bird life and his expertise with the camera. His patience is admirable!

The tour manager was Mohamed Maachou from active treks Morocco who was excellent.the views were magnificent as we checked around and up the mountain and we were favoured with beautiful sunny days for all the days we were on our holiday. You should be aware that on the mountain it gets cold at night even in May. A grade 4 sleeping bag is a must .

I first met Mohamed back in 2010 when I was doing the Mount Toubkal Trek, and We still keep in touch to this day. He is a confident and competent mountain leader and guide, yet he has a gentle nature. He`s full of ideas and never short of information about the areas you would be trekking in. I saw this every day alongside the group he was guiding and everyone would praise him constantly and his English is perfect. When I go back to Morocco, i would always look to use Mohamed. Trekking in the Morocco and the Atlas Mountains is a beautiful experience, from the vibrant colours of Marrakech, the local craft and scenery you witness as you trek through the villages high up into the mountains.
